The Cripple River Mining Camp
|

|
If you're looking for a real wilderness experience - one that has some history and allows you a chance to share in it - the GPAA has organized this
Alaska Expedition for its members; it is well-managed (by a hardy crew
of memorable volunteers) and achieves a [nearly] perfect balance of
facility and frontier. For more, follow this link:

For a short time during the summer, the sun
is up almost all day long. It moves around the camp
- instead of over the top - before it dips down behind a couple of mountains (the ones behind the outhouse). Only then does it get dark, and just for
a very few hours. All during the day, the light changes and the weather changes, and our spot here - where the Cripple River meets the Bering Sea - changes with it. You mine the black sand on the beaches for flour gold (or the rivers further out for nuggets and such) during work hours, and go exploring after supper. Then you fish the Cripple River 'til well past midnight, if you want to... |
